Valentine’s Dreams

So it’s that time of year again when love mush over flows. I can’t believe that even I too am feeling to be a bit on the cynical side. It used to be great and wonderful. But now it’s feeling over rated. Be it i’m older, wiser or more of a tight wad, I’m not for sure. Before even the new year hit I saw signs for greeting cards and sickening red candy (now please don’t get me wrong I MUST have at least one bag of cinnamon red hearts EVERY year) when I hadn’t even thought about a new year’s resolution yet. So here it is almost February and I’m sick of seeing cupid.

Now please don’t let me sound all bitter. I can remember the night when i was probably 8 or so and my dad had worked on (he’s a mechanic) a local policeman’s cruiser and here pulling into our driveway was dad with the cruiser (it’s a small town folks, it was ligit there), lights on and sirens blaring and he get out all dolled up and with a dozen red roses for my mom. You can’t beat fairy tale stories like that. Or my all time classic story is 7 years ago this Valentine’s day I worked second shift. Jason, my boyfriend now husband, had bribed someone for my apartment key (i lived alone) and had snuck in while i was at work and lit 100 tea light candles and had three beautiful roses (i still have them in my bedroom today) with poems on them and a rugrats Angelica valentine’s card in my apartment. So as I am on my way home from work at 12:30 in the morning i’m talking to him on the phone saying how sorry i was i missed valentine’s day but we’ll make it up over the weekend. I get to my front door and there is a sticky note on it that says “don’t be scared, your knight”. When I open my door here are the candles and card and poems and roses and him around the corner setting on my couch in a white t-shirt and blue jeans (my favorite outfit of all time (now if i could just get him to wear “nuthuggers”)). So needless to say that was a truly remarkable Valentine’s. Followed by the next year with my marriage proposal and engagement.

So for great Valentine’s days I can not complain. But the overmarketed hype is really driving me crazy. I long for a day with just a dozen gerbera daisys (my favorite flower) and a box of chocolates ( you know the ones shaped like a heart with a little map to tell you what’s what and then you lose the map and have to stick your finger in each of them anyway! because truth be told except from my dad I have never gotten a box of chocolates, sad state i know) and a simple plain candlelight dinner. No hoopla, no frilly, no spending and exorbant amount of money, just back to the romantic basics like I love lucy and the Andy Griffith Show. You can’t tell me that Sherriff Taylor would spend over $30 for his valentine, but sure enough it would be one she would remember.

So please let’s all try to bring back the simple things. Love, romance, and a box of chocolates!

These are a few of my favorite things

So today I discovered a new prego weakness. While I was pregnant with Alora I had an obsession for fruity skittles, there was nothing like them. I couldn’t get enough. With this pregnancy I hadn’t really hit the oh oh I must have this now point (although I’m sure Jason would beg to differ). But today,,,,, I found a wonderful new creation by Skittles: Skittles Chocolate Mix. Yes, that’s right folks, with brownie batter, creamy caramel and even s’mores. They are fabulous! It’s like having tootsie rolls but without pulling your teeth out and undoing a wrapper. Can’t beat it HUH! At first I was skeptical thinking they would be too sweet or too chewy or don’t put chocolate to a fruity company type of deal, but i really was surprised. So only time will tell if this obsession will be fleeting or stick with me the next 3 months.

And last but not least for all of those who came from my era I found a new radio station that hits the spot (makes me feel like I’m back in high school). Radio 106.7. Now i’ve only listened for a few days so don’t feed me to the dogs if i’m wrong but so far trips around town with the little tyke and this hits the spot just right. ( www.radio106.7.com for a live feed)

So that’s all for a few of my favorite things.

Poo on Shoe

No this is not a story about actual poo on a shoe this is a story of how I feel today, dog poo on shoe being walked on over gravel! So Jason mentioned the wonderful Birthday party and all the family we had in for the weekend, followed by the bloody ear infection and stomach ick! Well now it’s Tuesday and Monday was covered in another bloody ear infection, 102 temperature and another trip to the doctor, whilst saying bye to nana and pap. Oh yeah and did I mention the stomach bug wasn’t from the ear infection or antibiotics, no it’s contagious, and guess what the 6 1/2 month prego mommy has it now along with a relapse of the never ending bronchitis! (And after speaking to nana on the phone, the stomach bug found her at about 1:30 last night)

So today is Tuesday! What does that mean? Mom and Alora are home with stomach bugs, bronchitis and ear infections. Sounds like a wonderful household to be in doesn’t it. Now it’s not that bad because on rare occasion it does mean my daughter will crawl up in my lap and cuddle even if it is only for fifteen minutes. But on the downside it does mean diapers, diapers, and rolls of toilet paper. So this story is about poo on shoe and hopefully someday soon it will be scraped off and everything will be all better!

Birthday Weekend

It was great to have Alora’s first real party.  I hope we will have some video up soon.  The kids all seemed to have a good time at Fit Kidz Club.

Sunday, however, wasn’t so fun.  Alora had an ear infection on Friday where blood was actually coming out of her ear and by Sunday the infection had moved to her stomach, she had a fever and wouldn’t eat all day.  I felt so bad for her, it really sucks when you have to watch your children suffer but not be able to do anything for them.  I suppose this isn’t new info to those of you that have been parents for some time but I am still learning.

My Baby is 2!

So in 2 minutes it will officially be two years since my daughter has entered this world. I must say I’m doing much better than I thought today. There have been no tears just pulled heart strings as she cuddled me in my lap. We had her two year old portraits done just a little bit ago and I must say she is a ham. When we were done taking them and looking at which one’s to purchase, every time she’d see a new picture of herself she’d say “That’s Alora, I cute!” And as a proud parent I must say I agree. Tonight when daddy comes home we will continue with tradition and have Skyline for dinner. Now many people may think this is the most bizarre thing around, but after 36 hours of labor and birth my husband and father went to Skyline to get food and brought me back a black bean Skyline burrito. It was my first food in over two days. It tasted sooo wonderful! So call me crazy but Alora’s birthday dinner until she’s old enough to say different will always be Skyline!

My new MOTTO!

A mother’s day is never done, it’s always just begun!

Cheesy as it sounds, it’s become beyond true. For example, today is the first day I’m entrusting myself with my daughter since I’m highly medicated and still have bronchitis. This morning started out great, Alora slept in until 8:15! I thought my this is going to be a wonderful day. Then when I get her up I realize she has peed the bed and not just a little, her sheets, her blankets, her dollie, EVERYTHING. So I strip the bed and put clean clothes on her for the day. I then begin to fix breakfast which explodes in the microwave. We finally set down to eat and she gets the coco wheats just on her napkin, I was sooo excited. Until she sneezed and snot and cocoa wheats covered the clean shirt we just previously put on 15 minutes ago. So I run to the bedroom and get a clean shirt and wipes only to come back and pull off the cocoa wheats covered shirt and smother her in them. Her hair, her face, her arms and her chest are now covered in cocoa wheats and snot! Back to the bedroom we go to wipe off and brush our hair. 4 wipes later she is clean and with clean clothes. It’s now 9:00 and my hopes of getting her hair cut before her play gym class at 10 have been dashed to shreds. So it’s time to carry the dirty sheets and laundry downstairs to get the stinky pee out, which I trip and tumble down the steps with. Now I am covered in pee sheets, cocoa wheat and snot shirt and my face lands in pee covered Annie (her favorite dollie). As I realize Alora has beaten me down the steps due to my tumble and has poured my full 22 oz. glass of water on to the carpet and is yelling “Dancing in puddles Mommy, Look Look!” So we clean up the spill and prepare to wash the pee sheets, the wet towels from the spill and the cocoa wheats clothes. Everything makes it into the laundry, even with my daughter helping to put everything in (it’s her new favorite chore). And just as I turn around the lid closes on my middle finger and bounces and comes back down on it again. Now this doesn’t sound this painful until you realize it’s instantly purple and my two year old is standing with her big brown eyes looking at me saying “What wrong mommy, what wrong.” And I’m feeling overwhelming pride for not swearing and just simply folding in half and crying. by the way it’s now 9:30 and even the play gym class is looking doubtful since I have a load of clothes to fold and haven’t even showered. Then as my arm throbs I begin a coughing fit only to realize I haven’t taken any of my medicine yet, so as I wheeze and gasp for air I have to book it back up the steps to find my inhaler and medicine and while I’m at it a piece of ice and cloth for my blood filled fingernail.

So it is now 9:50, I’m breathing, the timer on the dryer is going off and I still haven’t showered. But I did take 10 minutes to let you know my new motto that I’m sure someone else in life has said, but as it popped magically into my head this morning it never seemed more appropriate. So let’s just hope that with the remaining 12 hours of the day I don’t burn the house down!

Happy New Year – In the Hospital

So, Tuesday night Heather had a fever and wasn’t feeling good, we decided to take her to the Labor and Delivery ward of our hospital to make sure the Baby was all right.  While we were there she developed a very bad cough and since her heart felt like it was going to beat out of her chest they made sure the baby was fine and then sent us to the ER.

We were fast tracked for a little bit but eventually were admitted to the cardiology department, apparently if you say chest preassure they want to watch you for a while.  So we were admitted at 2:00am January 2nd.  Thankfully Alora was able to spend the night with some great friends of ours.   Heather is home now and is resting today while Alora plays with some other friends.  So our New year has been off to a great start.

We did have our 8th annual Waffle party before all of this went down and I will try to post some pics or Heather will do it when she feels better.
